It must just be where I live, but most of the comments and/or looks I get from people are downright rude. Some of my friends actually used to refuse to go to the mall with me, not because they were embarassed but because they would get so upset at what people did and said they didn't want to deal with the stress.
A lot of times little kids will go "oh wow mom look!" which is TOTALLY fine, however, many times their parents will either encourage them to gawk at me and say things like "yeah take a good look, don't ever look like that" or they'll literally grab their children and pull them away from me as if I'm gonna eat them 0.o
I couldn't even list all of the rude things people have said (I'm sure you're all familiar with them, the circus, halloween, etc) so I'm just gonna say the worst IMO.
I was at the mall and a family was walking behind me, the kids didn't even care but the parents were making a fuss and talking loudly about how I was a freak, probably on drugs, etc., and I would turn around and they'd give me the most DISGUSTED looks. Then I heard the girls mother say to her "I hope you NEVER turn out like that, I would be so disappointed." It took everything in me not to turn around and say "You had better damn well HOPE she turns out like me. I got straight A's all the way from 1st grade through highschool, was in the top of my class, volunteered at the SPCA and a wildlife rehabilitation center, have never touched drugs, cigarettes or even alcohol, have never once been in trouble with the law, am WAY more polite to everyone around me than you could ever hope to be, don't have unprotected sex, and am generally a good f***ing person, which is more than you can say about the average 'normal' teen." But, as always, I ignored it and kept walking. Honestly, its all the parents who teach these kids to be prejudiced agaisnt people.
Which leads me to ask, when people make faces at you, rude comments, etc, how do you react? I always try my best to be as polite as possible to make them see that I'm not some horrible junkie circus freak, but if I'm already having a bad day I'll admit to occasionally making faces back at people :C I really rarely do, and I kick myself afterwards, but I think everybody probably does it at some point... right?
