Re: Knitting Tutorials?
www.knittinghelp.com is a great site for tutorials.
And even if she doesn't have the specific tutorial you want, the message board there are really good and helpful and the girl who runs the site will occasionally make a new tute for something if requested. highly recommended. HTH.

Those are two very much reccommended in Simply Knitting. Come to think of it; at the back of Simply Knitting there is a section on how do different knitting styles It's readily available from WHSmiths

Re: Knitting Tutorials?
No worries; I love to knit, but damned well never using double pointed needles again [You have to use them to make socks, it didn't quite go to play for me ]

You don't have to use DPNs for leg warmers; you can use single pointed needles, but depending on the type of wool you want to use, the seam could be more visible

Re: Knitting Tutorials?
Another option is using a circular needle and the 'magic loop' method. It takes a bit of getting the hang of but is way less fiddly than using dpn's! To be honest I usually stick to knitting leg and arm warmers on straights - if you sew up using mattress stitch the seam will be virtually invisible anyway.
While you are looking in the newsagents for Simply Knitting, you might want to check out another magazine, Let's Knit! which is great publication. It also contains full knitting instructions if you need them, but the patterns in the magazine are really good, and tend to be funkier than the other magazines.
A lot of newer knitters seem to get on well with Debbie Stollers' "Stitch 'n' Bitch" book. It's written in a really fun, chatty style while still being very informative. And it has some really nice patterns in it too, I've been knitting since I was 6 and I still bought it for the patterns.
