Greenify me!

Post by ..::AtomicLox::.. » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:39 pm

I'm looking to be the Wicked Witch of the West for Halloween next month, and I've no idea what the best way to go GREEN is! I'm wearing a black dress I already have, and it's my favorite, so it's essential I don't stain it green, therefore I fear typical oil based face paints aren't going to work.
I also just found out I'm preggo, so I'm nervous about chemicals in certain things.

Anyone got any genius ideas?!

Have you tried using a primer under and a sealer over face paint? I just use a normal make up primer and then baby powder to set it and hair spray to seal and I've found that's worked well for me

hmmm that's a thought. Hairspray I can't really be fussy about being exposed to since I'm a stylist, so I'm around it all day anyhow. I'll try that out, thanks!

I'm just thinking as well that just because you are able to set your make up, not everyone else will so you could still end up with make up on it :?

I just saw today that Urban Decay have a spray make up sealer out now if you want something more up market.

thank you ladies!

I know, I'm really torn on the dress. My biggest problem is that I'm totally broke and don't have anything else that would work in the slightest.

I am going to be a smurf this year and I am in a similar predicament. You will have to post what you decide with pictures and I will try to do the same. I would to know what technique and product you are thinking will be the best. Thanks for the suggestions thus far. I am looking into right now.

I know it's a year later but if anyone is scowering the threads looking for make-up ideas for Halloween, Threadbanger.com was doing a show for when Wicked starting hitting the stage and shows you how to make the costume in the play and a good vegan friendly (I believe) green makeup that should be easy to make.

I used pro stage make up when I went as Kali. It was less than $10 and I had enough to color a whole fleet smurfs. It was a cake makeup applied with a damp sponge. Gave totally opaque coverage, and dried with a matte finish. I found it way more comfortable than oil based grease paint. I was as blue as Mystique from x-men.
Came off with soap and water. But I did leave blue smudges around, mostly because my hands were blue also. The blue washed out easy in the washer, but I wouldn't risk wearing white with it on.

I ended up using a water-based professional theater "cream" + a spray on sealant. It worked pretty well, though I opted for coloring only my face and wearing a jacket as it was pretty cool last year. I did a totally half-assed job of it, morning sickness was still running rampant in my system!
