Fat wool dreads - best method?

Oh, okay. I refer to that as the hand painted method. When you said steam, I pictured pointing a steamer full of food coloring and water at a wool dread.

sorry for the confusion, its effectively the same as steaming vegetables so i think that's why people call it steaming.
