Interesting Formal Dress

Hiya all; just looking for ideas on where I can get an interesting formal dress- I'm up for an award at work and the ceremony is in October- it will be formal but not quite ballgowns and tailcoats.
All the ladies invited will probably be bejewelled up to their eyelids but its not my look- normally I would turn to All Saints but their dresses seem to err too close to my everyday style for it to look like I've made a real effort. Does anyone have any 'out of the box, don't need to sell a kidney to afford one' sort of ideas?
