Another wool felted dread tut!
Ok i know there's probably like a million of them on here and is probably nothing new to most folk here on the forums, but I did a wool felted dread tutorial a little while back, and i thought i would share it on here anyway...
http://www.errozero.co.uk/files/dreads_tutorial.pdf
I'd just like to add, i say 300g - this was for quite a skinny set of a medium kinda length dreads...I ususally order more than i think i need (so, for this set i bought like 500g!). Can always use it in another set if you don't use it afterall.
Just a few other points i put in addition to this when it went up on my blog:
1) If the water is starting to cool, put in some more hot, careful not to burn your hands though!
2) If the water is too soapy you might find it difficult to get enough friction to actually roll the wool between your hands
3) Whatever you do, don't use a Ph balanced soap
4) Try combining wool colours for transitional effects!

I just want to say a big thank you to you for this tutorial - I've just made my very first dread using it! It's a little thinner than I was going for, but thanks to your tut, I think it's turned out really well, especially for my first attempt
Well, guess I better go make it some friends hehe!

Hi, I'm new here and have only just seen this thread; thanks for the tutorial, nicely laid out instructions so that even someone as easily confused as I am can follow them with no trouble
I would very much like to give this a go now; is roving wool easily available in shops or do you have to order it online or something? I'm completely new to doing this so have no idea whatsoever

It's really easy to order on ebay, although you might find some in your local crafts shop, there is a greater selection of colours online. Also try folksy and etsy and look for roving under their "supplies" section xxx
Good luck!

Re: Another wool felted dread tut!
This tutorial is amazingly done!!!
this is how I do mine as well. Though it's been a LONG time : (
you can totally do single ended ones this way. You got need to put something in the roving to keep the hold at the top. I personally use one of these
