"twisted" roving dreads

Post by MrsEss » Thu Nov 13, 2008 8:40 pm

So, i thought i'd share the way i have made my most recent roving, it's not a tutorial as such, but it might be.

anyhoo:

start with normal setup (i used washing up liquid)
Image

put a small amount of roving in the water - leaving the rest out of the bowl)
Image

Once it's soaked, pull a bit out (you'll see by the pic that dry roving now enters the water)
Image

roll the end
Image

the roving soack up water while you are working on the bit on the towel
Image

you can see as you roll the roving the bit hanging over the bowl twists
Image

continue pulling sections from the water & rolling on the towel
Image

finished!!!

Do you ever get the dreaded line using this method? Do you refelt more than once? As in, twist them, then redo them like normal roving dreads?
To begin with, a dog is not mad. you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I am mad.

i do get the dreaded line!!!! with the turquoise i just made cos of the twist it didn't happen as often - i just did what lpf mentioned on the other tut - teasing it apart & then i re-dunked, twisted and rolled.

it's 21 micron, have felted it once & the purple i have used for my last set of dreads was the same - i felted that 3 times. i've used 22 micron before & that took about 6 felts to get it the way i wanted.

I have always done it like that- it makes sense doesn't it! It helps you not get the felting line :)

Hey, those look similar to syn dreads, softer, more comfy, and nicer to your hair! ^__^ I think I would prefer to try out this method of making roving, when I start making roving...
