Just be careful with the heat. Have you tested the colourfastness of your dreads? Wouldn't want them to run in the wash.

Is there a chance the dye will run?
stick one in some hot water & jiggle it about, see if the dye runs out of it or not.

o right no the colour is safe, I put them in boiling water in the bath for a full day to get rid of the vinegar smell, so I think they will be safe as I boiled them together after the bath incident to make sure the smell had gone and they were firm.

ah, yeah. they should be fine then...do a wool wash, anything higher will cook them & they'll end up a solid mess (see page 2 of my "blunder")

If you wanna keep the texture there's no need to palm roll

Re: Saspie-Doo will share her secrets ^_^ (Mega-Tute!!)
well I didn't notice much texture, dont no weather that might be because of the fact they were all ready felted or not? but i left half plaited and wraped to dry on the radiator and i palm rolled half so they are super skinny and light (hopefully). will post a picture to show you my results

There should still be a little wave, if not....wet em again & then scrunch each one up in to a ball (like you would to throw a piece of paper away)

Sarah, have you ever tried felting them smooth in the usual way after you have washing machined them? I'm thinking sticking them through the washer first would make the wet-felt a bit easier and be less work, but am slightly concerned I wouldn't get them smooth enough after the cycle.

If you wash them like 3-4 times, and palm roll them and allow to dry between each wash then you can totally felt them this way and stay straight. I wanted to keep a little texture, so didn't palm roll them totally, but you definatly could.

Here you go, sortd the links out:
They were all machined & then palm rolled (between each machine wash)
Oooh, if you wash em on a warmer setting then palm roll, they look like this:

Just tried this from memory without thinking about temperature, I put mine on 90 *facepalm*
for some reason I looked fro the hottest setting and thought that will do! I ended up with a giant dread with bits o dread coming off like an octopus oops! Hahaha they came out super felted, more felted than I've ever done by hand and......half the length!
Next time I'll measure twice cut once hahah

I wondered actually with the webbing effect do you use very small bits of fibres and wrap it up sort of like spreading out over a section and the palm felt to death (not sure that even made sense) that's what I've done a couple of times and It's the only way I can think of doing it

Something like that doing it that way gets a different effect though.
