Super Simple Microlink Tutorial

Post by Vicsarina » Thu Aug 21, 2008 3:32 am

I kept promising ANNloses I'd post this, so here we are:D

Image

Equipment:

Hair to install on, XD
Microlinks,
I-tipped hair,
A reel of cotton thread,
pliers,
comb to section.

Step 1:
Image

Take the cotton, and make a loop. Thread onto the loop a microlink.

Step 2:
Image

Section your strand of hair you're installing to,

Image

And put the strand of hair through the loop of cotton.

Step 3:
Image

Hold onto the microlink and pull the cotton loop back through the microlink. It will pull the hair through too.

Image

Push the microlink up to the top of the strand.

Step 4:
Image

Thread the I-tipped hair strand into the microlink under the strand of hair,

Image

Close the microlink with a pair of pliers.

Step 5:

Enjoy your new purty hair :D:D:D

There you go, simple microlinks using regular household items to install!

Awesome~ <3 Thanks!
One question: do you fold the I-tip at all? Or just place it in the ring, and then that's it? Just close over it?
Sorry for the question. I just want to be sure. ^_^

I just place it in, and squeeze as hard as I can with the pliers. They stayed for me:D

This may be a bit of a dumbass question.....but do you reckon you need to buy the special microlink pliers or do you think thin nosed type general household pliers would do the trick?

I've always used whatever pliers I have around the house. I've not bought the special ones, and I find it works just fine.

It's up to you really, but why waste money?

Can you use nail tipped as well as stick tipped, as long as they fit through the microlnk?

theres some tutorial on the interent that has the loppy things on a weft and theres some speecial pliars to put them in and out. like i watched it today for the weft ones it says to like make sure to close the ring paralell to the weft and then open it thee opposite. but the pliar things were shaped odd they had some indent in the shape of a circle for opening the loopy things. and you are supposed to shut them with the flat part.nbut opened it with the circle part because the loopy circle thing gets contained in the pliar indent as the pliars shuts and it makes it easier to umm.. take out.

ex weft. its a differnt thing but the loppy things look similar:

thats what i was refering to LOL

You can only use the i-tipped strands. The u-shaped ones is for hot fusion, and will not fit into the ring. They are way to big.
You can melt the u-tips and roll them into i-shape, but it's quite a lot of work...

From searching elsewhere I've found it's between 100-150 pieces of hair (depending on the thickness of your natural hair/size of your head.

I use normal pliers too and haven't ha a problem yet. didn't think of using cotton loops in exchange for a loop tool though.

This tutorial must have skipped me by in my early days!

Thanks a lot, this thread is very helpful, and the technique looks quite easy. It makes me want to have a go at it on Friday for my Combichrist concert then.

I am unfamiliar with using this method (always used glue). How do you take them out?

Using pliers, you squeeze the microlink in the opposite direction to when you closed it. So when closed it will be a flattened loop, squeeze from corner to corner.

I hope I wrote that in an understandable way>.<

I don't think you do, although it is recommended that you use silicone lined ones to prevent slipping. I can't say I was too bothered with that, but I wasn't looking at long term usage.

How much time will it stay on the hair ?

Thank you ! ^^
