Taking video tutorial requests!

Just wondering if anybody wants a video tutorial on dread making. I can't think of anything that I haven't covered.
By video tutorials, I mean actual visual footage and me explaining the process in a voice over, not just text and pictures. Pictures are used as examples of the final product at the end of the video.
Open to suggestions :D
(But I won't do a damp cloth/flat iron sealing tut, there are millions out there already :P )
I have already done backcombing, blending hair, swirls/candycanes, transitionals and twisting/sealing with a steamer.

Oooh! Ooooh! A dread lock felting tutorial. I haven't been able to find one yet. It'd be very much appreciated :)

Hmm do you know any ways to get dreads super smooth with out using damp cloth and flat iron? I think that would be a terribley good tutorial as I HATE the feeling of dreas using the flat iron method

I think most just use flat irons.
I just use a steamer with an upholstery attachment, helps smooth down a bit and I guess trim the stray bits off?
I guess the only other way you can do it is make unbackcombed silky dreads

They are gorgeous!

Somebody requested the No Seal/LS-Seven style dreads, I'm waiting back on permission from Doc to see if I can do a video version.

Anywho, wiggly dreads ahoy!

If you put the straightener on a very low heat setting or regulate the heat by turning it off before it gets too hot it stops the dreads getting that horrible crispy feeling :)

Bahahahahahaha, thanks.
Now, from the mistress of felting, did I do it right?
Minus the stupid computer drop...

Lovely felting tutorial. Glad to know it's just as messy and a bit haphazard for you as it is for me. I often feel like I'm just kind of flinging and rolling and making a mess out of everything. I am convinced that a machine can be built to do this for me... I know it can be done!

THANKIES so much!!!!

Haha, but a machine would defeat the purpose of handmade roving :P
You're welcome! :i2:

How about some chunky dreads?

By the way, your 'Buying Guide' video was entertaining and informative. ^^ You have a cute accent.

That's the only one I'm having troubles with. I don't have a sturdy enough comb to do huge dreads. I will give it a try though.
I guess you could just use the backcombing tutorial and use more hair, it's the same principle really.

I can be quite clumsy too so never mind the drop :P

There are so many ways to make felt. I make mine differently, but yours look great.
The main difference I could see was that I do a soapy stage and a rinsing stage.
In your method, it'd be the equivalent of using hot non-soapy water for the 3rd dunk.
Doubt it makes too much difference, but I'm paranoid about having soap left in the felt.

There are wet and dry felting machines out there, but they only make flat sheets of felt.
Besides, it takes the joy of the handmade out of it!

I didn't leave it in for long enough because I was doing one take. I could've stopped and waited for a few minutes but I was getting sick by the second! (End of the day, my nose was dripping like a leaky tap -_-)
The first set of roving I did, I felted twice in soapy water then just rinsed them.

I know I sent you a message on MySpace about this but I thought I might try and persuade you again. :P.

A Video for sectioning and Blanket stitch.

Like visual tips for nice clean sectioning in a good pattern so those gnarly little
gaps don't show up between the dreads.

Thanks :D

I know about the wet/dry machines for flat sheets. But darn it, a felting machine which produces cylinders IS possible. If I built and operated the machine myself, I think I'd still feel very involved in the process. AND the ends will always need to be hand done.

I can tell you how to make them (and possibly do a video), but I warn you it takes a veeeeery long time to get them stiff enough to not fall apart. PM me if you're still interested in a tut and I'll see what I can do. But you can see some of the one's I've done in my show-off thread here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=5157 Pay no attention to the horridness of the white ones though, I had to rush them to wear to a concert so they weren't quite finished.

Rivet Licker, the roving tut is sooo helpful. I really hope I can give roving a try sometime soon.

I'd probably wanna taper the ends up quite high, I like that style of dread. ^_^
