Post by doclocks » Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:47 am

Angie shot this, and did the install in the images. I think it turned out rather well. :)

I did that method with the_engel. It worked but it was a bit uncomfortable for her, so it's not a good idea for sensitive scalps.

Were the sensitivity issues from pulling them too tightly or because the rubber bands pull fine hairs from each section?

It seems that if you could tighten them without being too tight that they wouldn't be uncomfortable at all, but I've not done it on my head to be able to tell. Thoughts?

I was growing out a hawk thinger and I had dreads installed like this. Let me tell you - You think it hurts on the temples now? This KILLED my head, I had a headache for a solid day.

I remember when I installed my palm rolled set into some 2" long hair that it absolutely killed. I have ridiculously fine hair (and a lot of it too).

Should recommend these kinds of installs on those who have uber thick, less sensitive scalps.

well you may occasionally loose 1 or two, but maybe your hair was too clean when you put them in? i always tell my clients not to use conditioner or more preferably dont wash your hair the day of install!

Ack! I feel dumb. I searched the forums for "length" trying to find an alternative installation method, but I didn't find anything! So I just got done posting a question, and I find this. I'm shedding dreads like a brightly colored leper!

I do some of my dreads like this, works great, and i have pretty thin hair, occasionally one will slip out but they're easy to put back in like this.

The only thing I don't like about this method is it was hard to style my hair any other way but down :i7:

Came loose quickly but es very easy to put back in ^^

I've done this a few times. They're pretty sturdy, but my gosh does it give me a headache... I recommend doing it just a TOUCH looser than you think you should, and using an extra rubber band instead. Just my two cents. :)

oh, wow! look what I found! It was me who wrote that! (I'm Angie in doc locks) :D
I'm happy that so many people have tried it or are planning to! yay

To everyone complaining about headaches, the solution is not installing the dreads so tight. I know that it is somewhat hard to install your dreads loosely if you are used to the usual method, but here you can do it loosely since you can tighten the rubber bands up a bit when the dreads are getting too loose. ;)

Sorry everyone. We are in the process of completely redoing our tutorial page, so things are not all in the right places currently. Give it a few days and things should work again.

here's a link that works:

http://www.doctoredlocks.com/catalog/Super-Short.html

side note, does anyone know of a method to install SE's on super short hair? Mine is about the length of the hair in the tutorial(I'm growing my hair from an undercut to a hawk). I'm thinking some stuff up, but not sure on anything yet and would love some help.
