Making your own synthetic pre-bonds?

Post by AntaresJB » Wed Sep 17, 2008 11:36 pm

So I'm considering doing a mostly-full-head micro-ring install, either veeery carefully on myself or having a friend do it, and it will be with synthetic hair - the new ShapeShifter from Doc Locks, to be precise (which my package tracking says it will arrive on Monday, so excited yay! :D ) I've done small synth streaks with microrings before and the most frustrating part was manipulating the hook to get the hair through the ring, and from what I've seen it seems pre-tipped hair is vastly easier to work with... anyway, I'll get to the point:

I know you can make your own pre-tipped human hair with Liquid Gold, but is it possible to make your own prebonded synth as well? Would Liquid Gold or another hair glue work? (I've never worked with hair glue of any kind so I don't know if it's effective with synth) Alternatively, could I use a heat clamp (I've got this one coming in from Doc in the same shipment as the hair: http://www.doctoredlocks.com/store/prod-0205.html ) to seal the ends of the hair together and bond it that way?

Thanks in advance for any advice! I would just experiment but I don't want to waste any of what looks to be an utterly fantastic fiber if I can help it. :)

There isn't anything that says Liquid Gold is specifically for human hair (I just checked my bottle of it and it just says "extensions" and "weaves" everywhere) so it should work the same for synth

I've used latex glue to pre-tip synthetic hair and it worked just as well as with human, I don't see why LG wouldn't be just the same.
And that's a very interesting idea about the braid sealer, I don't have one so I wouldn't know but I would be interested to hear what other people have to say on the subject.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'm gonna check what kind of glue they have at Sally's and give some a shot, I guess. I may experiment with using the heat clamp, because it seems like it would be much easier and faster to tip a ton of strands that way, if it works. Would like to hear if anyone's tried that before, though. Thanks again. :)
