Colours we all hate

Post by Phoenix » Fri Aug 29, 2008 4:04 pm

Which colours are a bitch to seal? Which ones are not worth the hassle trying to use? Which never backcomb no matter how hard you try?

Edit:
Please note!
I'm only including colours here which are known to be difficult to work with. As people's techniques and sealing methods vary it's hard to say a certain colour should be avoided at all costs. If you decide to use one of the colours listed below, expect trouble.

Buyhair
If it's labelled as having a matt texture then chances are it's going to be hard to work with.
Fantasy Aquatic
Fantasy Pepper Red (Note: Buyhair may have renamed the old KK which never sealed to Ultra Vibrant Red and put a new product under the name Pepper Red)
Fantasy Baby Blue
Fantasy Light Orchid
Fantasy Turquoise
Fantasy Lavender
Fantasy Old Rose
Fantasy Shocking Pink UV,
Fantasy Moss Green
Fantasy Snowy White
Fantasy Ginger

LA Trend
Black

If you absolutely feel that a certain colour needs to be added to the list, feel free to say so.

Kikko turquoise and purple silky are both horrible
Some batches of Modu emerald green refuse to seal, but it varies by shipment
And anything by RastAfri is a pain to work with

Buyhair's Moss Green and Aquatic are pains.

I actually just worked with some of RastAfri's #24, it wasn't as bad as the Burnt Orange.

I agree about Rastafri. I love Sweet Red, but working with it makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

Damnit I was going to do a kit which had Moss Green and Aquatic in it, were they difficult to seal or to backcomb?

Sealing is the problem. They're gorgeous colors, but they just won't stay sealed. I'm making curlies, too, so they've dropped their curl :/ They have this...film, or texture to them that I can't explain.

Yup. I bought a bag of Sea Blue, which is blended similar to Aquatic, and if it sucks equally I will add it to this thread. However, not all of Buyhair's blended colors suck. We just need to find the ones that do. ;)

I really liked Sea blue. It seals quite nicely and backcombs smoothly too.

Oh yay! :) I'm going to use it in a kit for myself, then. Thanks for that info.

BH fantasy turquoise makes me so angry...and most people seem to want it
At least it's lovely to braid!

BH's royal purple is quite annoying to work with too, it just doesn't want to play along...

some of my packs of BH purple black had a 'film' on them like a small amount of vaseline or something yuk! i found i could backcomb it in the end but only after testing every comb i could buy, strange stuff. if it was the first colour i ever used i think i would have given up with dreads

Another vote for BH's Fanatasy Turquoise here
BH's Fantasy Pepper Red
BH's Fanatsy Yellow (Wasn't as bad as the PR or Turq. but had that kind of slimy feel to it, that you just know as soon as you smell/touch it that its not going to play nice)

Does anyone else notice that the colours are harder to work with have a funny smell to them too?
Or is that just me?

So, it's just the Fantasy Turquoise that's hard to work with? Is the funky turquoise okay?

BH's Old Rose, Light Ochid UV and Moss Green are infuriating to work with. But so far, those are the only ones I have major issues with.

BH's fantasy Aquatic is pure evil.
It felt... crunchy, really solid, backcombed and *snapped*, knotted up fast but in a way that made it difficult to get smooth dreads, it didnt want to seal either.
The result - squidgy, soft dreads, that only stopped unravelling after 8 reseals . Never again. I'm dreading even opening BH's snow white, I've heard such bad reviews about it >.>
To begin with, a dog is not mad. you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I am mad.

Buy hair - silver

I hate this colour, it's hard to back comb and hard to seal. It just wants to make life difficult for me :x

Lol, so many problems with buyhairs colours!
I'll add one to the list - Buyhair's shocking pink. Filmy, tacky, knots (not in the good way) too easily and doesn't seal well at all.
Same for BH's Blueberry =[

Buyhair's disco pink is awful to backcomb.. When you get started it isn't so bad but in the beginning.. I'ts just too smooth to backcomb easily. So is bh's red. They also don't seal that well.
