Simple Dread and Twist Updo

Post by Miss Liberty » Sun Dec 06, 2009 5:31 pm

I have worn this updo out twice now and thought it was simple enough to try to take pics of and post for those who may be interested in trying it. I think its a simple, elegant way to add texture without going overboard. Its pretty comfy for long nights too!

I should mention that for some reason my camera makes the color difference between the synth and my real hair look much more drastic than it really is. In person it was a fairly good match.

I got the idea from a you tube tutorial from torrinpaige on youtube. I REALLY like her tutorials. Check them out when you have time!

Anyway, her hair is super long. There is no way I can achieve any of her styles without some synth help, so I decided to recruit some dreads and twists.

You can use either really, or a combination of both like I did here. Since my deep purple hair is fading strangely, with some of it darker and some of it MUCH lighter, I used some twists in NV and curly dreads in DP

I put my hair into pigtails like so:

I took mini elastics and affixed the dreads and twists to the base of each pigtail:

Next, I split each pigtail in half and braided it around one of the twists. You can braid around a dread too if you want:

Here you can see it a little better:

Then I took a hair chopstick and stuck it thru each braided pigtail:

Once the stick is in, I wound the hair around it pretty haphazardly. Its almost like a Chinese bun, but a little less uniform. When I got to the ends, I simply tucked them in:

Since I was going out to do a bit of dancing, I took some bobby pins and secured the ends so they wouldn't pop out:

And stuck in some glittery butterflies:

Here you can kind of see how the colors blend:

And that's it! Simple, lots of texture, unique but not TOO out there for nights were a lower profile is the desired effect. I hope you enjoyed this tute!
