i would say wait it out, but also you can rub a thin layer of sudocrem on it (makes skin look very pale  ) and promotes skin healing so it might speed things up

oh and sunblock rather than sunscreen every day

Stay OUT of the sun, even if you're only going out for a few minutes, heavy duty sunblock will prevent more tanning. Also, while in the shower, lots n lots of exfoliation will help move along the process. You can always slap a little makeup up over it if you want to look pale again for an event/outing--I think a light purple/lavender powder would probably help (not that you probably have that sitting around).

lemon juice might help, but not sure since it's not like your skin is has colour on, but it actually is different now with more pigment in it. I think you may just have to wait and then don't let it happen again

Exfoliation is the key.

Thank you for this! I'm probably going to try all of them to get rid of my freckles and tan on my arms. :/

You're welcome :)

I'd like to try the 'skin bleach' recipe once I can get my hands on some peroxide and glycerine.

NOT that I advocate actually doing this to get rid of tan on your skin BUT

Has anyone who bleaches their hair to hell noticed that if you do get it on your scalp it bleaches the tan out of the skin? I always get left with a halo where my colour is bleached out by the process (yes I am very messy when applying bleach and I don't intentionally get it on my skin!)

please don't use hair bleach on your skin :i9:

What type of sunblock would you recommend for someone who easily tans?
Or does brand not matter? I hate having my chest & arms darker than the rest of me.
I also have scars from scratches and whatnot. ): They stick out.

you can get SPF 70/80 :P
I take it to festivals with me and I barely tan, I know for a fact Neutrogena make an SPF 70 sunblock.

Sadly in Australia, the highest you're allowed to label suncream is 30+
This means that we don't get the highest ones. really stupid in a country known for beaches & high UV days :(

I know it'd work out more expensive, but could you not buy online from another country?

I'm permanently shocked at how expensive sunblock is, especially considering the government and everyone keeps going on about the importance of using it.

I know! The sunblock I buy in summer is usually upward of £15 D:
It seems slightly hypocritical really.

Taken from http://www.arpansa.gov.au/uvrg/rginfo_p13.cfm
"Use of sunscreens with a higher SPF rating than SPF 30+ is not generally recommended as they may not provide much greater protection but require an increased amount of active chemicals which may irritate some sensitive skins."

SPF30+ blocks 96% of UVR. So it's definitely enough :)

Anything higher than an SPF 30 is just fine, just make sure to put it on regularly. Keep applying it to your more needed areas like shoulders ,neck, face, ears feet.
I live in south Texas and it feels like death out here. I personally always have sunblock in my bag I love the Neutrogena I think its like spf 80. thats always in my purse. I use moisterizer on my face with an spf 15 daily. And when I am going to be out in the sun for a while I use the spray on no rub sunblock.
I'm naturally tanned and if I stand out in the sun for even 15 mins I get tanned easily so I am a sunblock fiend and try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.

As for the original poster I think that rubbing a lemon cut in half should help slowly lighten your tan. Just make sure you do the lemon rub before you exfoliate. EEP! And make sure your skin is just tanned and not burned because ouch!
Get one of those gloves for in the shower and use it to gently exfoliate your skin in the wash.
