Rip And Twist Method?

Someone pleeeease explain this method to me. I am intrigued!
(And if their is a tutorial on doing it- please let me know ^_^)

We found this really helpful [if not a little hard on the hands :( ] on my boys dreads when we were first doing them. It is better to watch someone doing them though, there's no way I'd be able to explain it in words. XD
