I've extended some more and crotcheted my dreads. Now there are 84 dreads in all kinds of different lengths, the longest down to my bum. I'm extremely happy with them now, and love love love my hair (wich i never do) YAY.

Is it harder to get dye to stay in dreads? I couldn't imagine using a typical boxed dye with all those horrible chemicals in them. I'm sure for dreads something like manic panic would be the way to go.

Thank you so much!!!
They have been with me since 08 :) This is set #2!! I did my first set when I was 14 and had them for 3 years.... until I got them forcibly cut off when I got kicked out of boarding school!!! :( Sad day.

You'd be surprised, actually!! This is a demi-permanent, but it stays pretty well! The difficult part was evenly bleaching the black out of my dreads. What I did was use some bleach and did the dreads first, then my bangs and roots after the initial lighten. It took two attempts to get it light enough. Then, I brought one of the employees from Sally Beauty Supply home for dinner (no joke!) and she helped me out! Because of the uneven bleaching (I have been dyeing my hair black since '02!!) she used 3 different shades of red to get it to look even. One of the layers was a red-colored protein, which made it all soft. :)

This is Beyond the Zone "Wild Red" (http://www.sallybeauty.com/wild-haircol ... lt,pd.html) It took 2 bottles to cover my entire head :)

To give you a more realistic idea of how it fades, I just took this picture for you like 5 minutes ago:
Image

This is after 4 months. The other picture was 2 weeks after I had dyed it, so it looked pretty amazing :) As you can see, with about a washing a week, I have a bit of uneven washout. I only re-applied once with one bottle. There is some lighter areas around my face (probably washed off more from washing my face every day) and there are some sections that I unraveled a little bit to make my hair longer, and it is all black underneath!!

I am having my Sally friend over on Wednesday to dye my roots and even it out, so I will let you know what products I used and do "after" pictures!

i love the colour it has faded too. The vibrant is good too, but i think the slightly muted colour looks magical :)

before i had dreads i was dying my hair every week to every other week, but since ive had dreads i dye them every few months, for some reason the dye seems to hold a lot better and that is with washing them about 3 x a week, i dont bleach my roots that often now either

The show must go on. Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking but my smile still stays on.

I agree! I really like it, which is nice, because fading and roots growing in are inevitable facts of dyed life. I used to dread (heh heh) the day when you would be able to see the gross dark brown showing underneath the jet black, but now, with this hair color, I like all stages !

Kajablomst: I love your new hair! :)
(And, I am assuming that, like my name, your "j" is pronounced like an "i"... yes?)

Aricyn, looking good!! I love the braid in the front, so cute!!
Edit: and your little pink curlie-q thingies in them. :)

I have to show off again, because I just re-colored my hair for the wedding that I am going to tomorrow! And... AND! Added some real human hair extensions! This is the first time that I have done this... I have only 10 out of the 80 pieces in, so they will be much more full when I finish them tonight. I bought a pack of blonde ones at Sally Beauty Supply, and dyed them the same color that I dyed my hair (Which, this time, is a mixture of manic panic and a Clairol permanent dye).

The green flower matches the dress that I am going to wear! Only $1.00 at Michael's Arts and Crafts store :)

Those dreads are gorgeous! I've never considered getting real dreads before, but I have to admit, you've made me tempted! Also, you're bloody adorable!! Such a cute facexx
