I rub my roots nearly daily, that kinda knots things up.

Yeah threading it through the root means that the part where the dread is twisted doesn't knot up, causing weakness in the dread.

I rub my roots on an almost daily basis too.

If you use sea salt spray on your hair it might help

crocheting helps ENORMOUS amounts.

I am currently making a tutorial on how to do this.
Should be up by next week in the tutorials section.

Looping the dread through the base or root of where your dread is can be pretty bad.
You're creating a weak point that will never lock up or look like the rest of the dread.
It's also very stressful on the scalp.

Ohh I want to see your tutorial as well! I need to do some serious dread maintenance on my boy, his roots are majorly fuzzy.

I was so disappointed when I found the crocheting dreads tutorial on Doc Locks' site and all it showed was how to flip them through the root!

While you guys are waiting, why dont you check out http://community.livejournal.com/get_up_dread_up/ for the information you are after. There is a video tut on crocheting dreads, but i cant remember if its any good http://community.livejournal.com/get_up ... 36435.html

Hope this helps! Im sure everyones dreads will be fine as long as there is no more evil root flipping!!!!
