How to achieve silver hair???

Post by brandalynn » Thu Jun 06, 2013 7:31 pm

My brother desperately wants silver hair. We tried Pravana, but it did nothing. His hair is bleached to a very pale yellow. Can anyone recommend a good dye? He would prefer not farting with veggie dyes.

I'm surprised about the Pravana. It was the only one that finally got me there. maybe it is too yellow and he needs to use a purple shampoo for a bit first?

Option 1) Grow old
Option 2) Bleach hair & dye blonde then add purple toner

Came here to post option 1. A friend of mine tried something similar to your option 2 but she couldn't get the real silver color. Should this actually work 100% of the time if done correctly?

No, it depends on the color that its meant to be cancelling - too much purple on light hair will leave it a touch lavender and not silver at all. So the best thing to do is to figure out your toner color AFTER you lighten. Purples cancel out yellow, blues cancel out oranges, pinks tone out greens etc. THEN decide what you are toning with and add a hint of blue to kick it over into the icey tones. :)
