Getting this purple...

Post by LizSherman » Wed Nov 09, 2011 11:49 pm

Hey hair girlies (and guys!),

It's been a little while since I posted (I've been posing as "normal", shh!!), but I'm looking to take my light brown (dyed) hair to this colour... http://www.flickr.com/photos/hairport_l ... 0079741676.

Ideally, I'd like to use directions dyes to get this shade (they are the easiest for me to get, and I'm on one hellova budget here). I was thinking violet with a dash of flamingo pink, but I'd like other opinions. Also, how light do you think I'd need to bleach for this one?

Any help is adored and revered <3

I've never used directions but I get about the same color from Special Effects Pimpin Purple. I would definitely say put a bit of pink in there for it though.

Special Effects Deep Purple starts off dark, but in a couple of weeks faded to this on me. The color is VERY similar:

Oh wow that is pretty smack on!! I look generally awful with dark hair colours though (natural blonde, and I'm partial to not wearing make-up!), I don't suppose a dilluted Deep Purple would make it brighter would it? Or would it just be less vivid... I'm pulling a hur durr here!

Colour B4 do a stripping shampoo now, and I find its great for taking your colour down one notch. I used a red I wanted pink and one wash of the B4 make it bright, vivid pink :)

i dilute a lot of colors, but never tried the Deep Purple. I would think it would have the desired effect though seeing as how this is how it fades.

Bonus, you may get more out of the life of a bottle if you dilute.

Manic Panic mixed 1:1 with conditioner does a nice job of toning down color without sacrificing vibrancy, in my experience! I've never used Directions as it's not easy to get hold of here.

I looked at your link at immediately though 'Woah! Thats exactly the same as mine!' I use SFX Deep Purple and Pimpin Purple, as others have said. The Pimpin Purple would probably be best for you as its a more pinky shade that gets brighter as it fades. Good luck with it!
Id rather be looked over, than overlooked.
