I'm thinking about starting The Hours by Michael Cunningham. Has anyone read this?

I've just finished reading broken by shy keenan, heartbreaking true story about her abuse at the hands of her stepfather from the age of 4. She also revealed the full story on a newsnight special several years ago which lead to the step father and other abusers being locked up for their crimes.

Since finishing it i've picked up memoirs of a geisha again after discovering my copy in the back of a cupboard!
blah blah blah

Gosh thats aweful... I remember being shown a copy of A Piece of Cake which was a similar story... it was heartbreaking to listen to the years of abuse, drug use and prostitution... her book was so sad and yet so inspiring at times...

I havent read memoiirs of a geisha but have heard good things...

Right now, I'm reading Winter's bone by Daniel Woodrell. It's very well-written; the descriptions of the cold and frozen environment it is set in keep making me want to put on a cardigan.

I am also revisiting The Chronicals of Narnia for the first time since my childhood. I am halfway through The Magician's Nephew with my 8 year old daughter.
What, that? It's a spade.

Thats one of my favourites :) could do with reading those again.

I'm reading The Book Thief for the second time now, and dipping in and out of a book about the Kray twins.

She is spellbound, its fair to say. And I am really enjoying it too. We tried jumping in a puddle yesterday to see if we went anywhere but we just got wet.

She asked to go to bed early last night so she could hear more story. Precious.

Kirsty the Laurell K Hamilton books start off really well but by about the 5th/6th they've just degenerated into 40 pages of plot and 300 pages of vampire/werewolf porn. Same thing happened with her Merry Gentry series which I preferred the setting of (Seelie/Unseelie Court) and I gave up on them both after a while. Shame because she is actually a decent writer when you get past all the grot.

I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It's the story of a man and his little boy travelling cross country after an unnamed apocalypse which has wiped out most of mankind and destroyed the earth. It's heartbreaking to be honest, I'm on an emotional rollercoaster every time I pick it up.

Heheh yeah I did the mistake of reading 2 of the Anita Blake series and then going to Half Priced Books and buying up to I think book 10. After book 5 everything turns into smut! which is so sad because the books from 1-5 are really good.

finished "Affinity" by Sarah Waters today. It's such a sad book. I'd seen it on tv but the book is so much better. I love Sarah Waters :D

I loved that book, though it isa bit unsettling. I hated the movie though, but that is quite common when it's made from a book I have loved.

I'm currently reading The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. It's nothing spectacular at this point but it stops my mind whirring and keeping me awake.

I've read everything Bret Easton Ellis has ever written, the man is frankly disturbed. I totally recommend Glamourama once you've finished American Psycho, it's a real headscrew but I loved it.

I'm reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's a post apocalyptic vampire dystopia. Seriously, what about that wasn't written for me? :D
