^^ Yeah I just cried several times. I'd address everyone personally but I realized that I really wanted to say the exact same things to all of you: You have no IDEA how incredibly strong you are. I don't know you well at all but I have serious appreciation and love for all of you.

Jeez, I've just cried lots too.

Sending hugs to you all.

I know how hard a miscarriage is Sally. I hope you're doing OK (and everyone else obviously).

The way I look at it now though is if I hadn't had a miscarriage, I wouldn't now have Scarlet.

Hugs all round

I've been insanely busy with preparations for Kyoko's birthday (and party). I made 63 cookies earlier(I still need to ice them) for her to give out to her classmates, I only needed 35 but I just kept baking then when I had a break and counted them up and yeah..ooops   I have to make the father in law's cake tomorrow ready for Sunday, a panda cake for Kyoko for Monday, then on Thursday & Friday I'll be baking like mad again. I need to make another cake this time for the party (she wants a monster high cake), cookies, ice cream cakes, cupcakes and the rest of the party food, thankfully this time it's only for a dozen girls rather then most of her year.

I thought ahead and wrapped all her presents up last week, designed her card yesterday and printed it off today, attached a number 7 badge, I've also printed off some cute monster high gift tags. I think I get more excited about her birthday then she does

Yay for having a monster high party rather then boring Barbie party. I've had my eye on a steam punk monster high doll for a while but am trying to be an adult. :i9:

The week just gone has been a week of ups and downs. I'm still technically pregnant but haven't stopped spotting since last Friday. Yesterday I passed what I think was a bit of tissue but nothing heavier then that. We've got a scan on Monday afternoon which I'm very nervous about. I don't feel pregnant anymore, i've tried to prepare myself emotionally and tried to think about it logically, it's just a mass of cells, but the worry of when I will miscarry and what will come out frightens me. To add insult to injury I got my letter through for the 12 week scan and all the details about your pregnancy I would have liked to have been given when I first went to my doctor. I haven't looked at it and have just filled it away.

On the plus side this week I got a job. Many of you know I run my own business and haven't been looking for any other work. But I trained as a librarian and miss the interaction with the children and sharing my passion for reading. I came across an advert for a manager position of a public library which the council had closed down and the community was reopening. It is my DREAM JOB, all the aspects I enjoyed about working in a public library without all the politics. So I applied for it a while ago and the interview was on Thursday. It's been a huge help to have something else to focus on rather then what's just going on in my body. Also I think if I'd have thought I was pregnant and everything was ok I may have subconsciously thrown the interview as my mind would have been on having a baby rather then getting a job. Well I got a phone call back and they offered me the job. It's really flexible so I'll still be able to run my business, doing the big conventions at weekends, selling wholesale and online. Which really is the best of both worlds.

Anyway, I'll update you ladies after my scan on Monday.

Good luck Monday Sally. If it's any consolation, I didn't feel pregnant at all until I was about 4 or 5 months gone.

Feeling like crap today as the inevitable has happened, at least now I can enjoy the spa and cocktails on our holiday next month. I woke up at 5am when it started, which I'm gratefull for, as I've been frightened about waking up in a pool of blood. Am updating all the boring descriptions and building the back end of my website to distract me.

Awww Sally, I am so sorry *hugs*

I have had a minor setback last week, I'm trying not to think about it.

Went to see the paediatric cardiologist in Shrewsbury where Rosie was born, he was away on leave when she was born so perhaps we would have been saved all the heartache if he was there but hey ho! He was fantastic, very thorough with Rosie and very good at explaining which was great! They are so pleased with her progress, her fistula is causing no problems whatsoever ATM and she screamed through her echocardiogram and he said it was fantastic that there was no change/pressure, especially when she was screaming like that. Her heart block is improving all the time and it may go, possibly completely, and it seems likely it's not secondary to her fistula. For this reason he asked had I been tested for antibodies when she was born. I was, but assumed since I had not heard anything that it was negative, actually it was positive. Boo. This means it's my fault Rosie has heart block :( but on the positive side it should get better and we would have never have known about her fistula if she didn't have it, until possibly a time would have come and she may have collapsed! So that's the positive.

Negative side is that if I have any more children it's almost certain they will have heart block too, gutted. Also I could possibly develop lupus in the future so have got to be kept an eye on. I'm trying not to think about it but it's in the back of my mind, until I have seen a specialist I think I'm going to feel a bit unsettled.

Thats really good news about Rosie and her progress :)
thecutealternative wrote:This means it's my fault Rosie has heart block :(
Its not your fault Rosie has heartblock, it is nothing you could have changed, don't take it hard on yourself and keep blaming yourself for it xx

Its understanding you are worried, and it seems every bit of good news there is more bad news behind it. But keep thinking positive and keep snuggling up with that beautiful baby and everything will be ok. And knowing both you & Rosie are on the radar to see specialists etc is a good thing so you can be monitored.

Oh, hin. Don't blame yourself, it's not your fault. You have created a very special life....YOU did that, she's improving & will continue to do so. Apparently these things are sent to test us & it anything it'll only make your bond with your daughter all the stronger.

Take care sweets. X

Thanks ladies for your support! I'm not thinking of the negatives now, I'm just enjoying my beautiful little girl :-D

Pretty tired ATM, Rosie has gone from sleeping through, to waking up to three times a night some nights. My HV assures me it's normal around 4 months (she's 16 weeks 4 days today) as she is developing and is likely to be having another growth spurt too. Ima sleepy mumma lol.

The 4 month growth spurt is EVIL! Scarlet was going through an 8oz bottle every hour, on the hour for about two weeks

It nearly killed me...

I've got a bit of good news. After finally having had enough of having to sit in Scarlet's room until she went to sleep every night and day (sometimes it would take up to two hours), and caving in half the time and taking her to bed with me, I put my foot down last Monday and left her to it. I would go in and reassure her every 5 minutes but in the end IT WORKED!! Now we have our evenings back and she's slept in her cot all night for the last week!

You have no idea how much of a difference it's made to me...it was getting quite soul destroying to be honest.

That's great news Liz, it's surprising how babies/little ones get used to a routine so quickly.

I've started to combination feed now, Rosie has a bottle at lunch and at around 7.30 now, and then breast fed the rest of the time. I was contemplating starting her on a little baby rice, but I think she's a bit too young yet.

Out of curiosity, how young were your little ones when you started weaning/introducing baby rice or porridge?

I started weaning at 18 weeks, thanks to the infamous growth spurt and I was at my wits end. To be honest though I wish I'd waited a little bit as I know now she didn't need it. Many people start weaning around this time as they think the ravenous hunger means they want food, but actually all weaning foods contain less calories than milk so weaning can actually be counter-productive. There's nothing wrong in my opinion with starting a little early (that's a whole scary debate), but it's often not necessary.

Are you thinking of doing baby led weaning or purees etc?

I started her off with porridge, then started to give mashed sweet potato/avocado things like that. Then I continued in a more baby-led style from 6 months. Personally I prefer giving finger foods, but I know a lot of people panic about choking at such a young age. It's all down to personal preference.

Weaning in the early days is to get them used to new textures, it's not meant to replace the calories from milk, not until they're over a year old at least. Or, that's what I was told anyway.

Seth was 15 weeks & Korben was about 14 weeks. They both weighed over 9lb at birth & the HV suggested it with Seth, with K I got one of the mesh things that you stick a bit of fruit or veg in & they chew on it - essentially a healthy teether. He didn't go on "food food" until he was about 18 weeks or so. They both took to food a lot better than milk though. Seth slept for 14 hours once he was on food. Korben, took longer to sleep through.

You can wait, for as long as you want. Jo waited until her LO was 6 months old & she later on said that was too old. I think tbh, it's best to go with your gut.

Years ago (I know, that was then & this is now) weaning started when babies were 3 months old, or when they hit 12lb, which ever was first.

There is no right & wrong, just what YOU prefer. Weaning, as with everything in parenthood can cause debates (on certain, other forums)

Oh I know that Sarah (about the calories vs textures) it's just from reading lots of other forums etc, some people assume that giving baby rice etc is to stop them being hungry (and therefore start weaning for that reason), so was just making that point. :)

I agree though, it's down to each person individually. Your baby, your rules :)

A good tip for a first finger food is chewy bread crusts (from French bread or something). It's great to chew on but by the time they break bits off it will be so soggy it will just break down and not cause any problems.

I started weaning at 18 weeks. Evelyn was contantly mimicking us eating whenever we had food, and was always trying to grab things off our plates. Her first weaning foods were carrots and sweet potatoes.

She was a terrible sleeper though. She was up every 2 hours till about 18 months, and then 3 times a night from then until just over 2. When she *finally* started to sleep through. Shes great now though at 2 1/2, and will only wake if she has had an accidrnt in the night or needs the toilet.

I feel your pain! Scarlet has just started sleeping through now at 18 months. It's such hard work isn't it? She still takes a while to settle sometimes, but it's so nice to have our evenings back, it really is. You don't realise how important that break is until it's gone for months!

Definately. Especially when you are working the next day, its a killer. It didn’t help either that it was me getting up with her every time too. I was like a zombie!!! I was basically a single parent for the first 2 years and did everything for her. If we have any more kids I wont make that mistake again and I will make the OH pull his weight! Its difficult now too as if Chris tries to do certain things with her, because I have solely done it for the past 2 years she really plays up.

Can anyone recommend me some good parenting books? I know its not something that can be taught but i would just really like some sort of reference point as to what type of parent i would like to be and stuff.
I read reviews for the 'Attachment parenting' book and it seemed ok but i think you have to have the baby sleep in your room indefinately and im not sure i agree with that so i dont really know which books to buy :?
I is confused with all these concepts and things ive been coming across so i though i would just ask the best advisors i know, you lot! :D
The show must go on. Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking but my smile still stays on.

I don't think you need to stick to every aspect of a parenting style. Just pick and choose the bits that you like. I found the Baby Whisperer useful, but didn't agree with it all. Some people love Gina Ford, some hate her. You won't know until you read it though. Maybe get some books from the library?

I know a few people on-line into attachment parenting, I can get some links to facebook groups etc if you're interested

Ignore the books. Do what you feel is right for you. Trying to stick to "rules" in a book might make you go bat shit.

That's my 2 penneth. I did buy a book about raising boys though, it was more of an account on her raising 2 boys as opposed what you should & shouldn't do.

See if your mw has any ideas. There's actually a debate on here about AP Lisa, might be worth reading.
