UGH about to rip my hair out dye to crappy bands.

Post by MeanwhileDreads » Thu Nov 17, 2011 5:14 am

   I did the whole plunge to go blonde and I'm loving it, but these clear elastic bands will be the death of me!

They break every freaking day >.<
Even when switching to differant brands/tripling up still nothing...

Does anyone know of bands that will go with Platinum Blonde dreads that aren't full of breaking fail?

Definitely use ortho bands or the kind of rubberbands that are used for braiding horse manes/tails. Both are way stronger than regular hair elastics.

I used the clear Ortho-Bands and they were sadly just as bad as the other brands, breaking mostly within an hour of having them in...

I didn't know is the yellowish latex ones would show up or it would blend with the dreads.. I might try them, because my head hates me right now xD

If orthobands snap, that's a giant problem. I remember wearing them when I had braces. Christ they hurt enough, so a snapping one would kill!

Hmm... I wonder why they are snapping on you, they stay in mine for weeks until I take them out. You could always try string?

Also make sure you are not overstretching them when you are twisting them around your hair. They may just be snapping because you wrapped them around too many times.

I was confused about them snapping too, and I make sure I don't overstretch them, if anything only do a double thingy..

And if does hurt when they snap near my scalp xD

i never used bands cos i hate how they looked, i always used wool or string in matching colours, you use just braid it in, no snapping so no problems, lus you dont get any pokies which is why i hate how bands looks cos you just wrap it round them

I have terrible luck with ortho bands. They always snap before I can even wrap them around at all.
I have a client who for whatever reason can't handle ANY type of band. Things that always work for me snap after an hour on her (I honestly don't get it). She finally found that tattoo gun bands were the key for her! I believe you can find them in many colors.

ETA: I've had good experiences with IKS white rubber bands on my blondies at work. The clear are plastic, which makes them really brittle and temperature-sensitive. If you say, take a hot shower and then go out in the cold, they're twice as likely to snap on you.

Imma try the white ones out, see if they'll work better.
I was curious about string but I don't know how you do it.

string or wool is very easy you just take a strande fold it in half and put each bit with the hair andd plait it, that way too you can wrap in any pokies x

I use the white plaiting bands for horses. They almost NEVER snap! Loads on ebay :)

I also recommend hair mane braiding bands - if they can hold up under horse hair, humans hair is no probs.

The horsey bands work really well unless you get an old snappy batch >.< I'm lucky if mine snap after a week my Afro has usually made a minor matt in the end and it stays in yay
But I live those ortho bands, only ever got some from ls though are they easy to get in the uk? Good ones that is?

I gotta use that string method, that sounds great! I hate dealing with poking hair
