Wool roving dreads, my first attempt ever!

Post by IvyDryad » Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:18 pm

Hello guys. I have been lurking around this forum for a while now, and decided it's time for me to ask for som critique on my DE roving dreads. This is my first attempt, so I need all the critique I can get! :D

In colours pumpkin, burgundy and apple green (the colours on the photo are a bit off <.<) I wanted the ends to be thinner and rugged, and wondered if anyone had any tips to get them gradually thinner instead of going straight from fat to a thin thread?

Cheers!

Yep :D

They look good.

Did you cut your roving or tear it? Slowly tearing is apart can help create a better taper than a straight cut.

What exactly do you mean by rugged??

Thank you!
I don't cut them, I tear them apart. But I tend to do it in a hurry, so I'll try the slow method next time. :D

I meant that I don't want them to look "perfect" like in smooth, even in thickness and so on. ^^

Thank you trippytroll!

Yes, I like that texture aswell. :) I assume it's either done in a washing maschine or by throwing the dreads on a hard, flat surface?

They look great, very smooth.
Possibly a bit underfelted? im not sure. It's personal preference of course.
You can get more rugged ones by putting them in the machine or crunching them up in a ball whilst hand felting

Yes, they were done quite quickly just to see if the colours were right. :D When I'll be making the "real deal" they'll be much more felted. ^^
