Chain as part of an install

I am doing a monochrome grey, carbon, black dread braid set soon. I have bought some silver spikes to add. BUT I am thinking I'd like to install some CHAIN along with the dreads. I'll just sew a link to the fold of the dread and only do 4 lengths of chain. Anyone every attempt this before? Any advice if you have?

I used chain in falls- it makes them pretty heavy!

I only plan to do 4 lengths in the front center, so I'm hoping the weight won't be so bad.
