I think I am FINALLY going to get to a dread wig project I have been putting off for about a year. I made most of the dreads to go on the wig already and have some cyberlox pieces to add in as well. It will be my first complete wig project and I am excited!
I do have one question though and would love to hear opinions. I'll be braiding most of the dreads into the wig hair itself and then sewing on extra dreads to fill in any gaps in the mesh cap. However, I am concerned about the longevity of the elastic bands on the braided in ones. I know over time, elastic bands have a tendency to dry out and snap. If I am going to sell the wig, I want to make sure its a product that will last a long time and provide much use.
For those of you that make dread wigs, do you use mini elastics to tie off the braided in dreads? How long do you find them to last? Do you simply sell these on and it is up to the customer to replace snapped and dried out bands as needed? I am thinking I could somehow manage to sew the braided in wig hair to each dread, but the prospect of this method seems tedious and a time consuming.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Could you not use thread in a matching colour instead of the elastic bands?

you could trying tying them off with some string or something?? Kellye, the cute alternative made this wig:
idk why but I thought the braids were secured a different way....but looking now they look like elastics.

Use a weaving thread! A little more tedious, but totally worth the effort for longevity.
On the other hand, elastics won't wear out as quickly on a wig, either.

Re: Elastic bands with braided in dreads
thanks ladies! I thought elastics would fare better on a wig than in regular extensions, but do know that they can snap over time so wanted opinions. I will play around with a few methods and see if I find one sufficient.
