Troubleshooting: Transitionals

Post by schwarz_engelblut » Sat Nov 14, 2009 10:00 pm

I'm so annoyedwith myself. I've made wool trans before but I'm working on some for someone and they're thicker than I usually make sooooo it's harder to dye them :/ I just finished dyeing the top black but it came out more of a murky brown colour and the transitioning part is blocky (I can add a pic if needed) Is there any way to fix them? And does anybody have any nice tips on trans-dyeing long wool dreads? It's just making me so upset...

They look nice. I had to dye over the original trans point but they're yummy!

Thats one of the great things about dying roving... if you dont get the colours you are after (as long as you wanted it richer) you can always redye them, again if the transitional is too blocky you can redye them, hoisting the wool up every 5 minutes or so to esnure an even spread of colour...
Hope to see your progress pics on here!!! :D

http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/FEATdyeyourown.html Check out this woman--she transition dyed an entire skein of yarn. A beautiful, soft fade! So wonderful.
