Pencil roving dreads? How does this sound?

Post by vailismyname » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:52 am

Hey!

So! I have been wondering! Where I live, there is no access to the roving that is ideally used for making dreads. I could order online, but I would prefer not to if I can. So now I bring up this topic! PENCIL ROVING! I DO indeed have access to pencil roving! I've checked for superwash and haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on the label, so I think I'm safe there.

Mostly, what I was wondering is, if I took several strands of pencil roving and fluffed/unwound it and put it all together into a thinker long strand, do you think I'd have a fighting chance to be able to make roving dreads out of this????

If you got different colours you could twist them together into candycanes :D

Gotta be worth a try, surely?

You can make roving with pencil roving.

Admittedly, they are SE's and I'd personally use hot water, but whatever. It can be done ;)

Oooooooooooooooooo! The candycane idea sounds nice. I wonder if they would look sloppy?? Hmmmm... Also! It's good to know that someone has indeed made dreads from pencil roving, even if they are kinda skinny se's. At least I know it can be done and I'm not crazy for wondering! YAY!!!!

If you sort of tease out 3 lengths and mush them back together prior to felting I think you'll have some good luck getting together some textured DEs. You could also do easy peasy dread braids! Tutorial: http://prezi.com/cquqeoec63v_/hair-exte ... ad-braids/ Skip the initial two steps and go straight to "making the dread braids" section.
