How to reinforce wool roving dreads?

Post by CrossEyedMorgan » Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:04 pm

I'm making wool roving dreads and they've gone quite well I think XD

I've made SE ones, and to do the loop at the top I've just folded the end and tied it neatly with wool. I've wrapped the wool around quite a bit so it doesn't look too bad. It's spun wool, and I'm worried the knot will untie, I was going to try and felt the whole dread again to try and get it to stick, and also just make sure the dread is felted properly, but I was wondering if I should use glue on the knot?

Any suggestions?

Also if people have better ways to make the loops that would be awesome, I've only seen a couple different ways online and when I tried to felt one it didn't work amazingly. I've got to make a bunch of dreads with another colour so if there's a better way to do it I can do all of them nicely haha

Thanks :)

Oh oh also, if I put the dreads in the washing machine once they're done.. will that tighten them and the wool wound around? Just wondering haha

Thanks heaps! I've tried that locking one and I didn't quite do it right, but try it again when I'm more experienced with dread making XD but the other ones gave me ideas, thank yoooou

You could try needle felting to secure the loop?

needle felting is a godsend for making SEs. I really recommend giving it a try if you haven't done so yet.
