Weft - GAH Im doing it wrong!
Hey hey ladies.
Ok, i wanted to have a stab at wefting for this upcoming family reunion i have on this weekend.
I saved some of my hair which i made dreads from and had a go at watching the vid tut on You tube that everyone recommends.
GAH - i swear i must be dense, because the I can understand step 1 and 2 but the rest seem to be a mess. I think im kinda doing it right, but their just not the best. I just cant get it too pull tight, and i cant get the little loops to come close together at the top.
I am wandering, is there a wefting pic tut of that video somewhere?
That would be so helpful cause it's like the last 2 steps of looping that im messing up and i cant get it right and she moves pretty quickly through that bit!
Ok - here is the weft right now.
I have lightly steamed it and tied it off etc to see what it looks like
SEE! Utter rubbish is what ive created here.
Any advice would be awesome please :d
Cheers wonderful ladies

I haven't ever tried hand-tying wefts myself, but it looks like you might be using a bit too much hair for each knot.

I agree with this. I think you're literally only meant to use about 3 strands per knot or somethingBossyLibraryLady wrote:I haven't ever tried hand-tying wefts myself, but it looks like you might be using a bit too much hair for each knot.

you are using too much hair for each knot. it should be just a small amount but not too small that when you try to pull it tight it breaks apart.

You shouldn't be using anymore than 20 strands of hair for each knot, it takes time and practise. I didn't understand it when I first tried with the video, but there was this tutorial > http://www.mhrw.com/weft_technique.html
Works a charm now!

Didn't have the patience for this, so I totally cheat and pull out the sewing machine

I'm gonna agree with everyone on this, much smaller bunches of hair. It does take a long while to complete a weft but its worth it and once you do get the hang of it you can do it while you chill out and watch TV. Just keep practicing with much smaller amounts. Beautiful color BTW I bet the dreads are gorgeous.
N yeah thats the tut that helped me Rivitlicker, however it seems to be missing. -sadface- I had it printed out somewhere around here. Perhaps one of us will make a new one in paint.

This be my Facebook dreads page ^_^ Feel free to add me

Thanks so much for your help ladies
It's really apprecaited.
Rivet - do you by chance have the working link to that pretty please?? I'd love to have a look.
Im not sure why but that vid tut is a little confusing.
I was trying to make handtied weft because i want to put the weft on wig clips and use them as extension clip ins. I wasn't sure if you could do the sewing machine method for the clips?
Thanks again ladies for all of your help, I am going to have another go this after when i get home and post up new pics.

I usually use a single needle machine, but once in a while spoil myself with a double needle. After sewing the wefts, I lightly comb the stitching towards the top and apply a thin layer of liquid gold to give it a clean strong look. Doclocks has the easiest to understand tutorials for this. You should be able to hand sew the finished weft to wig clips easily, just like any other weft. Anyhow, here's the link. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=2440&p=32109&hilit ... eft#p32109AbbieLaZe wrote:brandalynn - will this work if im trying to make clip ins because ill need to attach wig clips to the weft.
